Catherine L. Nommensen, 94, of Southern Pines, died Saturday March 6th  at Pinehurst HealthCare in Pinehurst.

A long time resident of Knollwood Village in Southern Pines, she was born at Harmony Hall in White Oak, NC.  She graduated from Shaw University in Chicago, Ill.  She spent her career as a judicator and claims adjuster for the Rail Road Retirement board, a branch of the federal government.

Catherine met he husband of 50 years, Arthur Nommensen in Chicago at the Aragon Ballroom in 1957.  He was a dance instructor.  Catherine and Art spent many years as professional Ballroom dancers.  Catherine was also an expert seamstress and sewed most of her ball gowns.

Catherine was preceded in death by her father, mother, 1 brother and 2 half brothers.

Catherine is survived by her husband Arthur, nephew Paul Layton, grand- nephews Jonathan and Jason Layton, grand-niece Allison Ardin, 5 great-grand nieces and Edward and Debbie Davis and their son and daughter Jay and Holly.
