Chiyoko Nakahodo Williams

Chiyoko Nakahodo Williams, 60, of Pinehurst, died unexpectedly February 21, 2010 at Duke Medical Center.  She was born October 18, 1949 in Okinawa, Japan to the late Bunki and Shizuko Nakahodo.  She is survived by her husband, David Williams; two daughters, Michele Scarbrough and husband, Drew and their two daughters, Victoria and Melanie of Yorktown, Virginia, and Christina Williams of Pinehurst. She is survived by three sisters, Sekiko Iwao of Tokyo, Japan, Yoshimi Miyazato and Chisae Nakasone, both of Okinawa, Japan.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Tatsuo Nakahodo, of Okinawa, Japan and leaves behind three nieces in Japan. 

She is also survived by her extended family, Claude and Jerry Williams of Durham; Alan and Blanche Williams of Durham; Pam Williams and Jack Allen of Takoma Park, Maryland; Lisa Williams of Durham, Karen and Brian Van Horn of Durham; Mary Esther, Susan and Cheryl Harward of Durham.  She also leaves behind two nephews, six nieces, and other beloved family members.

Prior to her death, Chiyoko was an active member of the Fayetteville chapter of the Okinawa Kenjin Kai (cultural organization), where she had most recently served as its Dance Director and had previously served as Secretary for several years.  Chiyoko was also a member of the Okinawan dance troupe, “Miyagi Ryu”.  She enjoyed the camaraderie she shared with the ladies of these organizations and the opportunity to preserve, through dance, the heritage she was so proud of.  In addition to these activities, Chiyoko enjoyed golfing with her husband, taking care of her daughter, Christina, gardening and spending time with her granddaughters.

A visitation will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Boles Funeral Home, 425 W. Pennsylvania Avenue in Southern Pines, NC, with a service to follow at 4:00 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Brain Injury Association of North Carolina, P.O. Box 10912, Raleigh, NC 27605

    To you and the the family, we share the loss of a lady we grew to know and love by our association. She was a great lady and she will be missed by all her knew her. I always loved her taking after you going down the fairway trying to keep up with you on the golf course. Her devotion to Christina was an admiration to all to see. God bless!
