Edward B. Barshis
Edward B. Barshis, 97, of Pinehurst died July 14, 2009 at Manor Care.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009 11:00 am at Carthage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Plowman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen.
Mr. Barshis worked for the Navy Department for 20 years. He helped establish the Defense Supply Agency for which he retired in 1974. He worked as a System Accountant in the Comptroller’s Office in both organizations in the Pentagon. Mr. Barshis was a native of Chicago, Il. and moved to Washington, DC in 1941. He was a long-term resident of northern Virginia before retiring to Pinehurst in 1985. He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin University and served in the Navy during WWII. He was a member of the Elks Club in Southern Pines.
He is survived by his wife Joanne Parker Barshis; four sons David Barshis (Pat) of Scottsdale, AZ, Darr Barhsis (Susan) of Williamsburg, VA, Dean Barshis (Kenny) of St. Louis, MO and Donald Barshis (Jan) of Willemette, IL;two step-children Debra Kidd and David Parker; 10 grandchildren and his beloved dog Rusty.
The family will receive friends Friday, July 17 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines from 6-7:30 pm.

So sorry to hear of Bud’s dying. The family were true friends of our family in Braddock Acres, Springfield, VA and Dean was our son’s best friend in school. We have many happpy memories of times together with Dean and his family. Carl and Sue Moorefield

Our Condolences to Mr. Barshis’ family. I used to be his barber many years ago and am so sorry for your loss. He was a good man and it was always a pleasure to see him. May God bless you and give you strength during this very sad time in your life.

I read the obituary in the paper last week. What a wonderful man, husband and father your dad was. He was a handsome man too, with a full head of white hair. I’m sorry for your loss. My heart goes out to you, Susan and the rest of the family at this time.
