barshis-obitEdward B. Barshis, 97, of Pinehurst died July 14, 2009 at Manor Care.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, July 18, 2009 11:00 am at Carthage United Methodist Church with the Rev. Chuck Plowman officiating. Burial will follow at Bethesda Cemetery in Aberdeen.

Mr. Barshis worked for the Navy Department for 20 years.  He helped establish the Defense Supply Agency for which he retired in 1974.  He worked as a System Accountant in the Comptroller’s Office in both organizations in the Pentagon.  Mr. Barshis was a native of Chicago, Il. and moved to Washington, DC in 1941.  He was a long-term resident of northern Virginia before retiring to Pinehurst in 1985.  He was a graduate of Benjamin Franklin University and served in the Navy during WWII.  He was a member of the Elks Club in Southern Pines.

veteran-flag2He is survived by his wife Joanne Parker Barshis; four sons David Barshis (Pat) of Scottsdale, AZ, Darr Barhsis (Susan) of Williamsburg, VA, Dean Barshis (Kenny) of St. Louis, MO and Donald Barshis (Jan) of Willemette, IL;two step-children Debra Kidd and David Parker; 10 grandchildren and his beloved dog Rusty.

The family will receive friends Friday, July 17 at Boles Funeral Home in Southern Pines from 6-7:30 pm.

Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Edward to the Carthage United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 70, Carthage, NC 28327. Online condolences may be made at www.bolesfuneralhome.com.
