James H. Poyner, 81, died Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at First Health Moore Regional in Pinehurst.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 5, 2010 at Boles Funeral Home in Pinehurst with the Rev. David Hicks officiating.

Mr. Poyner is survived by his wife of 60 years, Anna, daughters Janice P. Weiner and husband Ron of Charlotte, Donna Poyner of Pinehurst; sister Frieda Bean of Syracuse, NY; five grandchildren Aaron, Rebecca, and Jordana Weiner, Kendra Poyner, and Kevin Waters. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother John Poyner.

He was born December 13, 1928 to the late John C. and Minnie Wortmann Poyner. He served in the Army with the 10th Mountain Division as a member of the Ski Patrol. As a graduate of Syracuse University, he earned his CPA and worked as Vice President/Controller in the oil/gas industry. Leaving New York City in 1980 to retire in Pinehurst, he and his wife were members of the Pinehurst Country Club. “H”, as he liked to be called, was an avid golfer, a marathon runner and a huge Syracuse fan.

Boles Funeral Home of Pinehurst is assisting the family.
