Obituary for Joseph Charles Tichy, Jr.
Joseph C. Tichy Jr., 92, died Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, at his home in Whispering Pines. Funeral services and will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, in Southern Pines.
Mr. Tichy was born in New York City and raised in New Jersey. He served as a bomber pilot in World War II and graduated from the Georgia Institute of Technology in 1950.
After a long career designing fire detection systems for major buildings in and around Washington, D.C., he retired with his wife, Margaret (Peggy) Bubb Tichy, to Whispering Pines. He also served 28 years as assistant chieftain of the American Clan Gregor Society.
He is survived by his son, Joseph C. Tichy III (Jacey); and daughter, Susan E. Tichy. He was predeceased by his wife, Peggy; and by his later partner, Dolores Rengert; as well as his sister, Jacqueline Lorch; and his son-in-law Lewis Michael O’Hanlon.
