Obituary for Robert Cameron Millan

Bob Millan, 101, of Pinehurst, NC, died peacefully December 4, 2017 at FirstHealth Hospice House, Pinehurst, NC.

Bob was born in New York, NY, to Henry B. and Edna (Fickeisen) Millan. He graduated from Jamaica High School and attended Fordham University. He worked in the jewelry industry for Dieges & Clust and its successor Herff Jones for 48 years, retiring December 1983 as the national sales manager of the commercial division. Bob lived on Long Island, NY, until moving to Southern Pines, NC, in 1988.

He married Jeanne Tiernan (Millan) in 1944, and was predeceased by her in 1979. He married Ann Marie Millacci (Bayer) (Millan) in 1985, and was predeceased by her in 2015. He also was preceded in death by his brothers Charles, Harry, Frank and Jim.

He is survived by his son Robert Millan, Jr. and wife Rena Serino, his daughter Mary Millan Klunk and husband Jim, his daughter Marjorie Millan Kirkaldy and husband Peter, and his stepdaughter Anne Bayer Paskoff and husband Paul. He also is survived by his sister Lucy Gill.

He is survived by grandchildren Rebecca Millan Szymanski and husband Jon, Jennifer Millan Kreibich and husband Seth, Anna Curtis, Tiernan Klunk Gordon and husband Rich, Evan Klunk, Daniel Lyons and girlfriend Jill Watanabe, Jeanne Lyons and spouse Peter Christian, Scott Paskoff, Glenn Paskoff and wife Jo, and Deana Paskoff Welker.

He also is survived by great grandchildren Carly Szymanski and Kaitlyn Szymanski, Claire Gordon, Benjamin Paskoff and Lucy Paskoff, and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is loved dearly by four generations of his expansive family.

Bob was a veteran of World War II, serving as a B 24 pilot with the 15th Air Force, 98th Bomb Group in Italy. He rose to the rank of captain and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Air Medal with Oak Leaf Clusters. He served in the military from August 1941 to August 1945.

He was a charter member of the Air Force Association, a member of the American Legion Aviators Post #743, and a member of John Boyd Post #7318 VFW.

Bob enjoyed golf, bridge, dancing and picking up trash. He was First Captain of the Knollwood Village Adopt-a-Road (Midland Road) for many years. He was past president of Midland Men's Golf Association, past president of the Sandblasters of Knollwood Village, a charter member of the Stardust Dinner Dance Club and its treasurer for 10 years.

A funeral mass and memorial service will be held at a later date. Bob requested that donations be made to the St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church Building Fund, (Southern Pines, NC), or a charity of your choice.
