Robert Walter Jaeger, a 28 year resident of Seven Lakes, NC passed away at his home on Monday, February 13, 2012, following a valiant battle with brain cancer.  He achieved his final goal – to enjoy his 84th birthday – celebrated joyously by Bob and his loving family.

A service celebrating Bob’s life will be held at the Chapel in the Pines in Seven Lakes on Friday February 17, 2012 at 11:00 am.

Born to Arthur F. and Edna S. Jaeger of Brooklyn, NY on January 25, 1928, Bob attended Oberlin College where he met and married Shirley Keene. Theirs was a love defined by teamwork, mutual dedication and perseverance through every challenge and project.

Following graduation, a number of music-related jobs, and two years of service in the U.S. Army, Bob returned to New York State where he and Shirley raised their family and enjoyed long, successful careers in music education. In 1985 they moved to Seven Lakes where Bob embarked on a fulfilling “retirement.” Between innumerable rounds of golf he operated a wooden toy business, built furniture, and was very active in the life of the chapel: singing in Shirley’s choir, eventually becoming its co-director, and serving as chapel board
president.

Bob is survived by his wife Shirley Jaeger of Seven Lakes, brother Alan Jaeger and wife Cathy of Stamford, CT, son Donald Jaeger and wife Janice of Charlotte, NC; daughter Sandra Eckel and husband David of Clayton, NC, three grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren all of the Charlotte area. Bob led a generous existence and in that spirit, his family requests any remembrances in his name benefit either FirstHealth Hospice or The Chapel in the Pines.

Mr Jaeger was a wonderful and kind man. Shirley, it has always been so clear that the two of you shared such strong love and devotion for each other. May God wrap you in his loving arms and hold you in the days to come. Thinking of you, Rhonda and the whole crew at Seven Lakes Hardware.

I love you, Grandpa, and I miss you already. Thank you for the wonderful memories you left with me. Your music lessons and spiritual guidance will live on with me forever.

So we are always of good courage. We know that while we are at home in the body we are away from the Lord, for we walk by faith, not by sight. Yes, we are of good courage, and we would rather be away from the body and at home with the Lord. 2 Corinthians 5:6-8

You will long be remembered as a colleague and friend. Especially remembered will be the long discussions of news of the day at lunch time in Jerry’s office. We often disagreed but always respected each other’s views.

I was saddened to hear the news today of Mr. Jaeger’s passing. He will always have a special place in my life. Not only was he my teacher but at times a second father figure. My thoughts and prayers are with the whole family.

  8. Kind words from Laurie Giunta Woolever

I will always remember Mr. Jaeger (I could never call him “Bob”) as one of the kindest, gentlest and most patient teachers I ever met. His easy-going manner taught me much about how to succeed in the classroom. I enjoyed being his student, his colleague, and his friend. My heart goes out to all of the family in this time of sadness; know that many, many people have great memories of Mr. Jaeger that they will carry with them forever. God bless you all.
