CMSgt. William L. Parker Sr., USAF(Ret.), 69, of Seven Lakes, NC passed away February 4, 2010 at First Health Moore Regional Hospital, Pinehurst, NC.

A Funeral Mass is planned for 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 9 at Our Lady of the Americas Church, Candor, NC, with burial in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.

CMSgt. Parker was born on April 23, 1940 in Charlotte, NC to the late William Iredell Parker and Ola Burrell Parker of Charlotte and Gastonia, NC.  CMSgt. Parker joined the USAF in September 1958.  CMSgt. Parker’s notable jobs include Crew Member URC-44 “Talking Bird” in 1967 and 1970, flying command post and staff position from 1971-1975.  He helped create the 304X6 Satellite Communications Career Field and was Air Force Liaison Officer to the USA Satellite communication Agency from 1975-1981.  From 1982-1987, CMSgt. Parker served as the Tactical Communications Manager with National Reconnaissance Officer for the USAF.  Following his retirement in 1987, he worked as a civilian contractor with Space Applications Corporation from 1987-1989.  In 1989 CMSgt. Parker returned to government service as a civilian, working in various agencies and offices including the Office of Special Technology, and in April 2004 he retired from the Office of Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence.  CMSgt. Parker retired in Seven Lakes West, NC.  He served on the board of Seven Lakes West as Architectural Review Director, and frequently enjoyed golfing, boating, fishing and enjoying time with his wife. 

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. Parker of Seven Lakes, NC; his son, William Larry Parker, Jr. of Miami, FL; his daughter, Lisa Nicole Bennink (husband Michael) of Hightstown, NJ; two grandchildren, Phoebe Grace Bennink and Parker Joseph Bennink, of Hightstown, NJ; and loved by three stepdaughters and six step grandchildren.  

 In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Arrhythmia Center, C/O First Health Foundation, 150 Applecross Rd., Pinehurst, NC 28374.
