Obituary for Martin Wade Johnson

Martin Wade Johnson

Preceded in death by his father Henry Martin Johnson, and grandparents Berlyn S. and Mary McCoskey, Henry P. Johnson and Jocie Lee Barnett Johnson.

Survived by his wife Kimberly A. Johnson, children Katie Beth Johnson, Joshua Johnson, Andrew Johnson, Luke Johnson, Lauren Johnson, JonParker Johnson and AnnElise Johnson, mother Barbara McCoskey Johnson, sister Marchelle ( Michael) Cavanaugh, In-laws Robert and Patricia Ashmore, Robin(Nancy) Ashmore, Casey(Garett) Bearden, Kylie(Eric) Freeman, Samuel( Shannon) Ashmore and many nieces, nephews , aunts, uncles and cousins.

Martin was born in Houston Texas but grew up in Shreveport, L.A. and attended Louisiana State University Shreveport. During his freshmen year he joined the Army National Guard and upon graduation from college, was commissioned as an officer within the U.S. Army National Guard Special Forces, 20th Group.

While in Macon, GA he met his beautiful wife, Kimberly Jeanette Ashmore at a local church. They were married the following year and blessed with seven amazing children in five years.

During his time in Georgia he worked for the Georgia Department of Corrections as a member of the Tactical Squadron. Additionally, he served as an employee with Norfolk Southern Railroad for seven years.

Martin continued to serve our country as a contractor for the Department of Defense from 2012 to 2018. In 2014, Martin and his family relocated to Moore County, North Carolina. It was later in life, however, that Martin finally discovered his ultimate career and niche, serving as a caddy for Caddy Masters Inc. based in Pinehurst, N.C. During his tenure as a caddy, Martin thrived at talking up local golf enthusiasts and visiting golf professionals alike.

Martin was happiest talking to strangers, new friends and family. He loved debating theology, but most of all loved sharing the love of Jesus Christ. When he was not spending time with friends and family, he was coaching the LSU football team from the family sofa and enjoying the game of golf. Martin was larger than life and will truly be missed by those who knew him.
